WHO WE ARE

A Gym That Focuses on Progress, Not Pressure

At Wirral Boxing, we believe boxing should be taught with purpose. Every session is structured, every drill has meaning, and every member receives guidance. We don’t throw people into the deep end. We coach, support, and develop you step by step. From your first jab to building confidence in your movement, we focus on long-term improvement, not quick fixes.

THE MAN BEHIND WIRRAL MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

MEET MICHEAL 'COACH MIKEY' ALLEN

Coach Mikey Allen’s boxing journey began young — and it began properly.

He started boxing at 15 years old at Ford Estate ABC on the Wirral, at a time when boxing gyms were built on discipline, toughness, and real fighters. Back then, the gym was made up almost entirely of active boxers — not fitness trends or casual training.

From there, Mikey went on to box for some of the region’s most respected amateur clubs:

Birkenhead Amateur Boxing Club (1991)

West Wirral Amateur Boxing Club (1994)

Listercard Amateur Boxing Club (1996)

Across his amateur career, he competed in 47 contests, gaining first-hand experience of what real boxing demands — physically and mentally.

Mikey’s knowledge didn’t stop in the ring. He went on to help develop young fighters, including Jamie McKeever, who turned professional and boxed under Matchroom Sports. Sparring together and working closely, Jamie became Mikey’s first professional-level boxer, marking the transition from competitor to coach.

Today, Coach Mikey brings that same old-school foundation into every session — focusing on correct technique, discipline, and standards, not shortcuts or hype. This is boxing taught the way it’s meant to be taught.
